When it comes to cleaning and drying your natural fiber area rugs, it is imperative that you dry them properly once they get wet. Wool and other natural fibers hold moisture and when water cleaned will hold extra moisture than normal levels. Extra moisture can cause musty smells and damage to the foundation fibers over time. While natural fiber area rugs are very susceptible to retaining moisture, there are ways to properly maintain and dry out the moisture without damaging your rug. When spot cleaning at home, placing a fan on the wet area will help draw out extra moisture.
“Humidity is the measure of the level of moisture vapor suspended in the air around you. Although you can't see it, it's still there. The ideal relative humidity for health and comfort is somewhere between 30-50% humidity,” according to the Mayo Clinic.
So, how does Cristomar clean your rugs differently than other in-house topical extraction companies?
Our company cleans with fresh water from a two-foot-long fire hose and using a mild “baby shampoo” type of soap. Not only does this gives a deep cleaning process, removing dirt, sand and impurities, but it has been referred to as a preferred ‘submersion’ process. From the washing area, the rug passes through a wringer and centrifuge to remove most of the cleaning water, the dry room with temperature, air movement and dehumidifiers brings it to the preferred ambient moisture level. Ambient moisture is the range of moisture you have in your home and too much moisture can bring a musty smell or even mildew.
